Metro Detroit Weekend Events
The Detroit Public Library’s Chaney Branch is spotlighting Women’s History Month with a free documentary series running every Saturday in March, featuring powerful stories of notable Black women who helped shape culture and history. This Saturday, March 7, the library will screen A Ballerina’s Tale, a documentary that follows Misty Copeland’s rise as the first African American female principal dancer at the American Ballet Theatre. Additional upcoming screenings include What Happened, Miss Simone?, The Whole World in Her Hands, and Claiming A Space on March 14, 21, and 28. Admission is free, but registration is required.
Michigan Sneaker Xchange returns to downtown Detroit this Saturday at Huntington Place, bringing one of the state’s biggest sneaker and streetwear events under one roof with more than 20,000 items available from 150+ vendors. Running from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m., the event is set up for buyers, collectors, and anyone who wants to experience the culture, browse rare finds, and shop a massive selection of kicks and apparel in person. Tickets start at $28.52+.
Detroit Historical Museum is featuring a Detroit Red Wings Photographer Spotlight through March 8, showcasing the work of five influential photographers whose images have helped shape and preserve the visual legacy of Detroit’s iconic hockey franchise: Troy Anderson, Monica Bradburn, Allison Farrand, Dave Reginek, and Zack Silver. The exhibit is included with regular museum admission and offers a behind-the-lens look at the moments, emotion, and storytelling that have defined generations of Red Wings history.
The Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center is hosting its Current Student Works Show now through March 12, a free annual exhibit featuring hundreds of pieces created by student artists ages 18 and up. This year’s show is juried by Detroit native Elizabeth Youngblood, an artist educator who has served on the faculty at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and SUNY Purchase in New York, bringing a respected curatorial eye to a wide-ranging showcase of emerging talent.
Detroit Historical Museum is marking the Detroit Red Wings’ 100th anniversary with Detroit Red Wings at 100: Becoming Hockeytown, a new exhibit featuring rare artifacts spanning the franchise’s history and highlighting how Detroit became synonymous with hockey culture. The exhibit runs now through November 3, 2026, and is included with museum admission, which starts at $15, with discounts available for seniors, students, children, and additional groups.
Blake’s Orchard & Cider Mill is launching a brand-new Garden & Craft Fair on March 7 and 8, offering a family-friendly way to welcome spring with hands-on workshops and live demonstrations led by gardening professionals, plus a marketplace of local artisans and makers. The event also includes kid-focused fun like story time with animals and a children’s scavenger hunt, along with additional activities throughout the day. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the gate, and children 5 and under are free.
