The Zekelman Holocaust Center in Farmington Hills is hosting “Boris Lurie: Nothing To Do But To Try,” a unique art exhibition by Holocaust survivor Boris Lurie. Open through December 5, 2025, this first-of-its-kind exhibit features nearly 60 of Lurie’s early paintings, drawings, and sculptures created in response to his World War II experiences. Metro Detroit Weekend Events

The 22nd Annual Detroit Tree Lighting takes place today, Friday, November 21, from 4 to 9 p.m. at Campus Martius Park in downtown Detroit, officially kicking off the city’s holiday season with a free, family-friendly celebration. Attendees can watch a 62-foot Michigan-grown Norway spruce light up the skyline, enjoy live music and figure skating performances, explore festive lighting displays across downtown, visit food trucks and early holiday shopping spots, and catch a special appearance from Santa, with the entire event presented by the DTE Foundation and produced by the Downtown Detroit Partnership.

Winter at The Station is back at Michigan Central in Detroit, inviting the public to kick off the season this weekend with six weeks of festive fun running from November 14 through December 28. Visitors can explore The Shop at Michigan Central, featuring one-of-a-kind gifts from Detroit artisans and retailers at rotating pop-up stalls, while also enjoying live music, locally made food and beverage options, and hands-on creative workshops. The event is free to attend and takes place at The Station at Michigan Central.

Jingle & Mingle Underground Market returns this weekend, November 15–16, transforming the basement level of Ferndale’s Dot parking structure into a creative holiday marketplace. Shoppers can browse uncommon and edgy gifts from a mix of artists and makers, authors and bakers, while enjoying music, food, games, and hands-on art projects throughout the event.

Art for the Holidays 2025 opens this weekend at the Detroit Artists Market, kicking off a festive shopping season running November 14 through December 20. The annual exhibition features nearly 1,500 unique, handmade works from almost 100 local artists, including ceramics, textiles, paintings, jewelry, and more. Admission is free, offering the public an accessible way to support Detroit’s creative community while finding one-of-a-kind holiday gifts.

The Downtown Detroit Holiday Donut & Pastry Tour kicks off this weekend, offering a two-hour, two-mile guided walk through downtown Detroit filled with sweets and city stories. Presented by the Underground Donut Tour, the experience starts at Astoria Bakery in Greektown and concludes at Campus Martius, highlighting some of downtown’s most iconic bakeries along the way. Running November 13 through January 4, the tour costs $65 for ages 11 and up and $55 for children 10 and under.
