Upgraded Farmington Hills Home Tour
This 5-bedroom upgraded pool home in Michigan was a walk down memory lane. I grew up right next door to this neighborhood, the bike trails, the parks behind the houses, the tennis courts, all of it. So walking through this Farmington Hills home felt like stepping into a friend's house circa 1989. Built in 1969. Over 3,500 square feet above grade on a 0.34-acre lot. 5 bedrooms upstairs, every one bigger than what I grew up with in Hunt Club. Independence Commons, one of Farmington Hills' most established subdivisions. Farmington Public Schools, Hillside Elementary, then North Farmington High School (#164 out of 5,000 high schools in the U.S.) or Farmington High School (#183 out of 5,000).

Metro Detroit Weekend Events
Downtown Royal Oak is set to bloom this Mother’s Day as the annual Royal Oak in Bloom returns on Saturday, May 10. The longtime community tradition transforms the city’s parking lots into a massive open-air garden market featuring more than 75 vendors selling flowers, hanging baskets, herbs, perennials, trees, garden décor, and more. Now in its 32nd year, the free event draws gardeners and families from across Metro Detroit looking to kick off spring with fresh plants and seasonal finds. Food trucks will also be on site throughout the day, and early arrival is recommended for the best selection.
Halloween season is arriving early in Ann Arbor as the Halfway to Halloween Expo takes over the Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds on May 8-9. The two-day event features a collaborative haunted walkthrough with live scare actors, more than 160 vendors selling horror collectibles, masks, props, dark art, and oddities, plus a hearse show, food trucks, and a Saturday costume contest. Fans of haunted attractions and all things spooky can experience a full Halloween atmosphere months before October, with presale tickets available for single-day or weekend admission. Kids 12 and under get in free on Saturday.
Mother’s Day at Ford House offers one of the most elegant brunch experiences in Metro Detroit as guests gather inside the historic Lake Shore Room overlooking Ford Cove on May 10. Inspired by Eleanor Ford’s love of family traditions and entertaining, the chef-prepared brunch combines scenic waterfront views with a refined dining experience inside one of the region’s most iconic estates. The event has become a memorable way for families to celebrate the holiday in Grosse Pointe Shores, with limited seating available and advance reservations strongly encouraged.
Downtown Birmingham will once again transform into an outdoor art gallery as the 45th annual Art Birmingham returns to Shain Park on May 9-10. The free Mother’s Day weekend tradition brings together more than 150 juried artists from across the country showcasing ceramics, glasswork, paintings, jewelry, photography, wearable art, and more. Visitors can also enjoy live music, food trucks, and hands-on art stations for kids throughout the weekend. Set in the heart of downtown Birmingham, the event has become one of Metro Detroit’s signature spring art festivals and a popular seasonal outing for families and art lovers alike.
Emagine Theatre in downtown Royal Oak is offering a relaxed Mother’s Day brunch-and-a-movie experience on May 10, giving families a fun alternative to traditional packed restaurants. The $50 ticket includes a full brunch buffet featuring crepes, mini quiche, candied bacon, fruit, parfaits, and unlimited coffee, along with an $8 movie admission. The event combines brunch and entertainment in one stop, making it an easygoing option for those looking to celebrate Mother’s Day without the hassle of booking reservations weeks in advance.
